Even if your personal spook is not remotely violent, you may find it difficult to go on living in a haunted house. This is completely understandable and quite a common reaction. If you decide that the living arrangement is simply unbearable, yet you do not want to leave your home, there are a few methods for removing the ghost or decreasing the level of spectral activity. Always remember though, you have more power than they do. Do not let them take that control away from you.
Confront the ghost(s). The very first thing you should try is to persuade the ghost(s) to leave. This usually requires a great deal of courage and patience, and you must be firm yet sympathetic. First, acknowledge that the house did not always belong to you and thank the ghost for taking such good care of the dwelling. Then, gently but persistently, remind the ghost that you and you family now own the home.
Remove attracting objects. Ghosts are often linked to their old homes through familiar objects, such as old furniture, photographs, toys, photographs, and so on. If you can identify and remove the items that were important to the ghost (which usually requires some knowledge of the spirits personality and history), the spirit may follow suit. Many times, these attracting objects can be identified because the ghost(s) will often leave them laying around or you may find them in odd places, as if they had been moved.
Try ignoring the activity. Some spirits often get a rise out of scarring you. In a way, fear often seems to give them energy or the persistence to continue frightening the living. If you and others within your home simply ignore the commotion and activity that takes place, the ghosts may abandon the home willingly. This may cause a sudden uproar in activity for a short time as the spirit(s) try and get your attention. Just like a small child though, they will eventually have to cease their efforts.
